Why have Enhancements for the FLA ( FLA 202 / FLA 203 / FLA 206 )?

Due to the speedy evolution of the modern motor vehicle, especially in the field of engine technology, with the trend moving towards ever more powerful and at the same time more economical and environmentally friendly engines, it has become necessary to enhance the employed test systems and procedures in order to provide for this. Therefore Enhancement I and Enhancement II have been specially adapted and developed for the FLA.

They are based on TAT’s motorsport proven DynoMight data acquisition and test system for engine dynamometers.

With these enhancements any FLA 202 / FLA 203 / FLA 206 can be instantly converted to one of the most powerful and advanced rolling roads available. A completely new and state-of-the-art test system without any restrictions is created.

The basic functions remain unaffected.

TAT Enhancement I consists essentially of a comprehensive and easy-to-use software package.

An upgraded FLA is therefore an ideal tool for the modern garage and workshop, for automotive research and development, as well as for tuning companies and education.

 

Features of Enhancement I for all Bosch FLA ( FLA 202 / FLA 203 / FLA 206 )

(Windows-Graphics-Package for Pentium PC)

 

- no restriction on the number of tests

- much faster colour printing on A4 standard paper

- overlaying of any curves out of up to eight tests

- save tests with user-comments

- analysis of test data in the form of curves or table of values

- all axes can be scaled freely

- calculation of power in KW and PS or HP, corrected and uncorrected

- if engine speed could not be acquired during testing it can be calculated afterwards

- all data can be plotted vs. engine speed, road speed, or any other value

- all data files are converted into text format, thus enabling export to other programs and

  also viewing of files with any standard editor program

- reference tests: tests can be directly compared to another test (=reference test)

Requirements for utilizing Enhancement I

(Windows-Grafics-Package for Pentium PC)

TAT Enhancement I consists of an intuitively easy-to-use software package and a data cable. The software is supplied on two 1,44MB Floppy Disks and is suitable for installation on any standard Pentium 75Mhz PC or higher, running Windows 3.11, Windows 95, NT or 98. If desired, already configured PCs with installed software can be supplied. In order to benefit from the automatic data reception the FLA needs to be equipped with the serial communication port (COM Port or RS-232 Port). The software running on the FLA itself must be version 3.6 G or higher. Software and port can be retro-fitted on older models.

The advantages of Enhancement II:

Enhancement II is a specially adapted version of the proven data acquisition system DynoMight for engine dynamometers. It features a total of 20 data channels and enables the connection of up to 8 sensors of the user’s choice.

The application possibilities for the FLA are significantly increased, as now readings from extra sensors such as exhaust gas temperatures, boost, backpressures, exhaust gas emmissions, fuel consumption, various pressures and temperatures, etc. can be acquired and immediately displayed. Also, the possibility of connecting other suitable instruments such as gas analyzers, etc. exists.

Furthermore, a myriad of calculations can be performed by the software. To give only one of many examples, it is possible to immediately calculate flywheel engine power and torque when testing in ‘wheel performance mode’ while the retarder is in use. At the same time any desired correction, e.g. DIN, EEC, or SAE can be performed. Also, the output of all readings can be in any desired units, e.g. power in KW, or HP, corrected or uncorrected.

Display of all readings is on a PC screen using ‘virtual’ instrumentation.

All settings can be configured freely thus enabling the user to set up the system to ideally suit the choice of sensors and test procedure.

A further interesting feature of Enhancement II is a real-time graph into which curves from a previous test can be loaded, e.g. the power and torque curve from a previous test. This is especially useful for engine ‘mapping’ and tuning purposes. Differences are displayed via graph cursors, via numeric displays, and via two higher/lower annunciators.

Both enhancements are extremely user-friendly, and even for users with little previous computing experience easy to comprehend.

To use Enhancement I and II a standard PC with monitor, mouse and printer running Windows 3.1 or higher is required.
